Natural Miracle Cream: Lyes and Lathers’ & Helichrysum Calming Butter

I just wrote a review for this brand’s toner spray, but this product demands an immediate review because it’s sublime. At first glance, this is just a body butter, but it has very potent healing capabilities. When I bought this, the owner advised me that it is meant to be a soothing skin salve to heal irritation and damage. I started dabbing it around my body and saw almost immediate results.

I first noticed this when some of the ingrown hairs and irritation along my bikini line disappear almost overnight after applying this balm before bed. It’s easy to irritate that skin when shaving, so I’m glad I can look forward to blemish-less legs this summer. It also works wonders on chapped knees and elbows or “chub rub”. Honestly, I just wish it came in a bigger container.

Then came the real test.

On Valentine’s Day of all days, I hurt my knee falling in the road while waving to a car that stopped for me to cross — so much for politeness being rewarding. I did a super hero landing, pushing all my weight onto one knee which was worn raw, despite me wearing pants. I snuggled in to watch The First Monday in May and applied the balm generously on my tender skin. To my delight, it didn’t sting on the open wound. The second day wasn’t so pleasant; it stung after a few seconds of soaking in, but it was a low numbing sensation rather than a sharp pain. It went away as the butter melted to oil and absorbed into my skin. Two weeks later, the scuff was totally healed without any scarring. I won’t share pictures because I don’t think you want to see that, so you’ll have to trust me.

Raw Shea butter

Why is this butter so great? Shea and Mango butters are the first two ingredients, both of which seriously moisturize the skin. Shea butter on its own is kind of unappealing (if you look at a flaky chunk of the stuff, you’ll understand) so it’s necessary to mix it with other butters and oils to get the most out of its moisturizing powers. Then come coconut, hemp, jojoba, and rosehip oils. If you spend any time at all on the internet, you know many claim coconut oil is a save-all skin and hair saving miracle. While that’s a step too far, it is a great product to use on the skin, as are the others. Rosehip oil in particular is known for its soothing quality, and they can also be made into a lovely antioxidant rich tea.

The Helichrysum plant

All of that makes for a magical butter, but it’s the Helichrysum Italicum essential oil that takes it to the next level. It’s made from a plant that grows in rocky region of the Mediterranean sometimes called the curry plant (though it has NOTHING to do with the curry tree or curry spice), and the internet has a lot to say about it. Many of the claims are hyperbolic; some call it “Immortelle” because it supposedly reduces wrinkles, helps with fatigue, heals scars, heal emotional pain, boost immunity etc. While I don’t believe the overselling of this product, I do think it helps significantly with healing and lowering inflammation, from what I’ve read and my personal experience. There’s a grain of truth amongst the fluff. I think this extra potent ingredient is what makes this balm far superior to the typical cocoa butter or other home remedies for irritated skin.

The reason this isn’t just another body butter is that all the ingredients are goal-oriented. Each one serves a purpose to achieve the same goal, whereas other body products might be made with texture and smell in mind, each part of this is meant to heal skin. I highly recommend you try some; catch Lyes and Lathers in multiple places across the central PA region, and check their website for more info.
